Birch Bloggers was kind enough to send me this product free to review. The opinions within are my own.
So in my blogger kit, was the Bain de Terre passion flower Color Preserving Shampoo, Conditioner, Finishing Spray, and Styling Oil. I have to say I was fairly impressed with the packaging. It presents well and they were all good sized products. I really enjoy the silver can for the Color Brightening Finishing Spray. Not, lets go through each piece of this set.
Bain de Terre passion flower COLOR PRESERVING SHAMPOO
Lets start at the beginning! This shampoo seemed to lather fairly well, for me the scent was just ok. (I felt that it had a bit of that "old lady" smell to it, but to each his own!) The fragrance also seemed pretty light to me, and that didn't seem to stick with me after the shampoo and conditioner were rinsed. I generally use salon product though, and as far as consistency, lather and effectiveness, I didn't notice much of a difference. However, this sells for $12 for a 13.5 oz bottle, and I really feel that I can get my salon product for less at many times. All in all, I think if you really enjoy this particular scent, then go for it! If you're looking for a salon experience while spending less, head to the salon sales racks.
Bain de Terre passion flower COLOR PRESERVING CONDITIONER
Again, this one bears a hefty price tag in my mind, of $13.50 for a 13.5 oz bottle. This had the same Passion Flower scent, and in this instance I did notice this to be a lot less concentrated than products I would normally use. This may be ok for you if you enjoy the scent and your hair is already in good condition. However, again, even if this is the case, you could probably hit the salon sale rack and pick up a light conditioner for less that will actually last you longer because you will use less.(Sorry Bain de Terre!)
Bain de Terre argan oil & passion flower COLOR THERAPY STYLING OIL
The styling oil, I was most excited to try this because normally these are the products that will leave your hair silky, smooth and smelling really nice the rest of the day. Sadly, I was disappointed by this one. I really didn't notice much of a change in the texture of my hair, and the scent seemed to disappear as soon as I put it into my hair. If you are interested in trying for yourself, and really enjoy Bain de Terre product, this one sells on www.Birchbox.com for $14 for a 1.7 oz bottle (YIKES!)
Bain de Terre passion flower COLOR BRIGHTENING FINISHING SPRAY
Ok, hairspray!! I LOVE hairspray! No way you could mess that up, right!? WRONG! The smell as I was applying this product reminded me of the old Aquanet everyone is so fond of (NOT!) and I really had to spray a TON before I felt that I had achieved any sort of hold even though this is labelled as a "Finishing Spray"and having a hold of 4 out of 5! This one sells for $16 for a 9oz can.
Alright, so overall, I obviously wasn't impressed. So disappointing, I REALLY wanted to love this product. Especially since this was one of my first blog reviews. I just think they missed the mark on this one. I have tried the Jasmine shampoo by Bain de Terre and I liked it a lot better. I should not that all of these products in the line are Paraben-Free and contain Argan and Monoi Oils. That may have contributed to some of the issues I had, although I'm not sure why. As for as preserving my color, I really can't attest to that. I used this for a few weeks, and it did NOT make my color fade, so that is a plus. However, since I've dyed my hair black for year, my color rarely appears to fade, it usually needs retouching long before that would happen.
If you are interested in trying this, and other Bain de Terre product, you can do so at BirchBox!
Happy Memorial Day everyone! I hope you all have a great weekend!
